This year we celebrate strong, talented women who shape the film industry with four must-see movies.

In Lady Bird we meet Christine, a 17 year old high school senior frustrated with adolescent life and bored of her Sacramento upbringing. We follow Christine, who now demands to be called Lady Bird, during her senior year of high school as she embarks on first relationships, applies to colleges and discovers the importance of true friendship.

Why we love it:

With Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig has created something really, really special. Capturing the essence of life when you’re on the cusp of adulthood, Lady Bird is both brilliantly funny and moving, and its title character is one of the most carefully crafted female leads we’ve seen in some time.

From Gerwig’s sensational writing and April Napier’s nostalgic costume design, to John Brion’s instrumental score, every aspect of the film is joyful.
