Windmill Lane, Bursledon, SO31 8BG

Director: Don Siegel
Certificate: 12
Running time: 106 minutes

In this dark Brit thriller, Michael Caine plays John, a struggling Secret Agent who must race against time to find his kidnapped son.

Why we love it:

Anything with Michael Caine in is an obvious choice for us, but particularly Don Siegel's thriller for its noir tendencies and espionage themes. The film is multi-layered with a gloss of grit that never lets up.

The Black Windmill showcases Caine's utter diversity as an actor and was an early example of what he would later go on to achieve within the world of film. The stark visuals and steady pacing only propel it into greater depths as a triumph of British cinema.

Think you've seen the best of our site-specific locations? Think again. We screen this British classic in the stunning grounds of Bursledon Windmill, bringing the themes of Siegel's movie to life.
