Every year Eastleigh Film Festival invites students, budding filmmakers, and film aficionado’s to The Point for an interactive Careers event that offers invaluable advice to those seeking a career in the industry.

In September 2017 we invited experts of the field to The Point to host skills-based workshops on Directing, Editing, Performance and Screenplay Writing, offering an exclusive opportunity for participants to learn more about the specifics of making a film.



WORKSHOP LEADERS

Tom Wilton - Creating Creatures

Tom is an actor and creature puppeteer. His career in creature puppetry began when he was cast as the heart position of Joey in the National Theatre’s production of Warhorse.
 
Warhorse led to bringing the Luggabeast to life on Star Wars: The Force awakens. Since then he has worked on six feature films including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, played a gorilla in a Bollywood film and faced off against Peter Capaldi’s time lord in the BBC’s Doctor Who.
Dan Hill - Directing for Screen

Daniel has been producing and directing work with and for young people for over 12 years and has created a vast amount of theatre and film productions in that time. From small scale studio shows exploring themes as diverse as the 9/11 terror attacks to the life of Roald Dahl, to large scale theatrical performances and outdoor promenade shows.

His latest productions include OUTLAW: The Story of Robin Hood (The Point, Eastleigh), Alice’s Adventures (IBM Laboratories, Hursley) and Error 404 (Edinburgh Fringe). Daniel works as the Drama Development Manager for The Point and The Berry Theatres running a busy programme of youth, outreach and education projects.





Matt Beames - Screen Writing

Matt is a freelance writer based in Southampton, Hampshire. He is the co-founder of Beautiful Shadows theatre company and is an Associate Writer at The Berry Theatre.

Matt has been writing plays for ten plus years and his work has been performed in various venues in places including Seattle, USA, the Midlands and venues in the South of England.

Matt’s work is made up of short plays and full-length productions, alongside which he writes poetry and fiction.

James Henderson - Editing your Film

James is a local filmmaker and editor who has had a keen interest in telling stories for many years. Having grown up with The Point Youth Theatre, he has taken on a wide range of production roles in both theatre and film, most recently co-directing PYT's 2016 production of Alice’s Adventures alongside Daniel Hill. As well as making his own films, James has frequently worked with The Point, Eastleigh and Berry Theatre creating trailers, promotional materials and live video content for various events.
 
In 2015 he co-produced and edited Error 404, an educational drama used throughout schools to spark discussion on the issues of online identity. This led to the creation of 404 Productions, a company set up with the aim to tackle various social issues and taboo subjects in an accessible and innovative way. James has served as Director of Photography and as Editor on 404’s latest film Suspended in a Sunbeam, which premieres at this years Eastleigh Film Festival.
